Skydive Murph

Memorial Day means different things to different people. For many, it's the official start of summer, a time to BBQ w/family and friends. For others, it's a time to take advantage of sales at the mall.

The true intent of Memorial Day is to remember fallen war heroes, who died in active military service. No one does this in a more fitting way than the CrossFit community.

For CrossFitters, it's a day we honor heroes with a brutal WOD, named after service members, killed in action. The benchmark for hero workouts is Murph. This long, painful workout is named after Lt. Michael P. Murphy. The 29-year old Navy Seal of New York was killed in Afghanistan in 2005 and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Murph starts with a 1 mile run, with many wearing a 20-pound weighted vest from beginning to end. That's followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and another 1 mile run.

Skydive Atlanta upped the ante, by adding a skydive pre-Murph as a fundraiser for the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Last year's event was a huge success so they're doing it again this Memorial Day.

Wish we were in Atlanta to join Skydive Murph. 150 participants will get a 14,000 ft. jump and WOD entry for $150. The participant with the best Murph time gets a refund. It starts at 8AM at the Upson County Airport. We'll share highlights from Recon Photography. Thanks to photographer Ro Asgari, who will take part and capture the action, powered by GR3EN.
